{"id":52298,"date":"2021-01-01T13:56:02","date_gmt":"2021-01-01T13:56:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=52298"},"modified":"2021-01-01T13:56:03","modified_gmt":"2021-01-01T13:56:03","slug":"guardians-of-religion-claims-attack-on-russian-base-in-syrias-raqqa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/52298\/","title":{"rendered":"Guardians of Religion claims attack on Russian base in Syria\u2019s Raqqa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>IDLIB, Syria (North Press)<\/strong> \u2013 The al-Qaeda affiliated Guardians of Religion Organization, an armed group operating in northwest Syria\u2019s Idlib governorate, claimed an attack on a Russian base north of Raqqa on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A military source told North Press that \u201cthe Russian military base was fortified, the explosive-rigged vehicle could not penetrate it, and the attack did not result in any injuries or deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe members of the cell that carried out the attack were hiding among villages near the town of Ain Issa,\u201d the source added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Media outlets had previously reported that the attack resulted in a number of casualties among Russian forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Guardians of Religion\u2019s activities are concentrated almost entirely in western Idlib and occasionally the countrysides of Hama and Latakia, making the attack in Raqqa the first of its kind. The organization is considered a branch of al-Qaeda in Syria, and one of the founding members of the Rouse the Believers Operations Room which later merged with the Fathbatu Operations Room.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organization was established in February 2018 by jihadist fighters and clerics who abandoned groups like Jabhat Fateh al-Sham and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham when the latter groups attempted to distance themselves from al-Qaeda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Bara\u2019 al-Shami<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>IDLIB, Syria (North Press) \u2013 The al-Qaeda affiliated Guardians of Religion Organization, an armed group operating in northwest Syria\u2019s Idlib governorate, claimed an attack on a Russian base north of Raqqa on Friday.
