{"id":48970,"date":"2020-10-29T10:28:57","date_gmt":"2020-10-29T10:28:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=48970"},"modified":"2020-10-29T10:28:58","modified_gmt":"2020-10-29T10:28:58","slug":"us-commission-on-international-religious-freedom-continues-visit-to-syrias-kurdish-led-areas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/48970\/","title":{"rendered":"US Commission on International Religious Freedom continues visit to Syria&#8217;s Kurdish-led areas"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>RAQQA, Syria, (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) arrived in northeast Syria\u2019s Raqqa on Wednesday, accompanied by a pastor from the Evangelical Church in Nashville, Tennessee, to hold a meeting with officials from the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I was able to see for myself the devastation brought upon Christian villages near the area Turkey had invaded. I met with religious and community leaders and heard about the remarkable religious freedom conditions under the autonomous administration and how that is now nonexistent in the area that Turkey occupies,\u201d USCIRF Vice Chair Nadine Maenza said earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Siham Qerayo, the co-chair of the AANES General Council, said that the USCIRF\u2019s visit is an expression of support for the area and the desire to understand the situation of the Christian minority in the region. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;The Commission will get positive impression during its visit to Raqqa city after witnessing the safety and stability in the area that was the self-declared capital of ISIS,&#8221; Qerayo expected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maenza expressed the commission\u2019s support to AANES and its values, including religious freedom, gender equality, and human rights, <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/48941\/\">during a press conference after the meeting in Raqqa.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, USCIRF said towns and villages in northeast Syria \u2014 including some that are traditionally home to Christians, Kurds, Yezidis, and Arabs \u2014 experience persistent Turkish and militant shelling and ethnic cleansing.
