{"id":48162,"date":"2020-10-13T18:53:02","date_gmt":"2020-10-13T18:53:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=48162"},"modified":"2020-10-13T18:53:15","modified_gmt":"2020-10-13T18:53:15","slug":"erdogan-may-use-biden-win-as-excuse-to-invade-ne-syria-american-analyst","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/48162\/","title":{"rendered":"Erdogan may use Biden win as excuse to invade NE Syria \u2013 American analyst"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WASHINGTON, DC, USA (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may use an electoral defeat of incumbent Donald Trump as a pretext for another invasion of northeast Syria, American global conflict analyst and Kurdish studies expert Dr. Thoreau Redcrow told North Press in an exclusive statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cErdogan knows that those two and a half months will be his last chance to attack America\u2019s Kurdish allies in Syria before a Biden presidency would take over and prevent such an action,\u201d Redcrow explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Trump has a less than desirable record when it comes to Syrian Kurds. Though he told concerned Syrian Kurdish official Ilham Ahmed \u201cI love the Kurds\u201d in a <a href=\"https:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2019\/01\/29\/politics\/trump-kurds-hotel-meeting\/index.html\">January 2019 meeting<\/a>, in October of the same year Trump made the decision to withdraw US troops from the region, paving the way for the Turkish offensive on the border cities of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad on October 9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Even those in the Trump administration were shocked and upset by this sudden policy change. Both the US special presidential envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS Brett McGurk and former Defense Secretary James Mattis resigned in protest of the withdrawal decision, with McGurk stating that the decision \u201ccame as a shock and was a complete reversal of policy\u201d which \u201cleft our coalition partners confused and our fighting partners bewildered&#8221;, adding that the pullout <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-46661384\">may lead to a second resurgence of ISIS in the area.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thoreau suggests that Trump\u2019s inconsistent policy on Turkey and northern Syria may have to do with his personal interests in Turkey. \u201cIt has been reported that Erdogan personally called Trump up to twice a week in the past,\u201d Redcrow elaborated, adding that \u201cTrump himself has admitted that he has a \u2018conflict of interest\u2019 with Turkey, because of his Trump Towers in Istanbul.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBiden is on record of being critical of Trump\u2019s decision to betray the YPG\/SDF and allow Turkey\u2019s invasion in October 2019, and Erdogan knows that he will never again have a US President who is so subservient to his interests and susceptible to his lies, as Trump has been,\u201d Redcrow added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Redcrow further explained that should Trump suffer a defeat in the elections on November 3, this would give Turkey a 78-day window, until Biden takes power on January 20, 2021, to launch a new invasion of northern Syria and occupy more of the region before Biden puts a stop to any further Turkish progress in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Lucas Chapman<\/strong><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, DC, USA (North Press) \u2013 Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may use an electoral defeat of incumbent Donald Trump as a pretext for another invasion of northeast Syria, American global conflict analyst and Kurdish studies expert Dr. Thoreau Redcrow told North Press in an exclusive statement. \u201cErdogan knows that those two and a half [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":48163,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"pgc_sgb_lightbox_settings":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[39,3,2],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-48162","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-home","category-politics","category-syria"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.2 -
