{"id":47891,"date":"2020-10-08T11:43:53","date_gmt":"2020-10-08T11:43:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=47891"},"modified":"2020-10-08T11:43:54","modified_gmt":"2020-10-08T11:43:54","slug":"syrian-government-raises-unsubsidized-gasoline-prices-by-32-percent-amid-fuel-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/47891\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian government raises unsubsidized gasoline prices by 32 percent amid fuel crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> On Wednesday, the Syrian Department of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection adopted a resolution to raise the price of unsubsidized 95 octane fuel by 35 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The resolution provided to for an increase for unsubsidized 95 octane fuel from 575 Syrian pounds per liter to 850 SYP per liter. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress alignright wp-block-embed is-type-wp-embed is-provider-north-press-agency\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"5FwKSLLvxd\"><a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/47884\/\">Fuel crisis forces return to animal-based transportation in Syria\u2019s Raqqa<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;Fuel crisis forces return to animal-based transportation in Syria\u2019s Raqqa&#8221; &#8212; North press agency\" src=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/47884\/embed\/#?secret=NgWTfBhr8Y#?secret=5FwKSLLvxd\" data-secret=\"5FwKSLLvxd\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Talal al-Barazi, the Minister of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, said on Sunday that the solution for the fuel crisis lies in acceptance of price hikes by people who own vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The resolution does not include subsidized 90 octane fuel, which is sold in gas stations for 250 SYP per liter via smartcards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The smartcard is a new mechanism established by the Syrian government to provide low-cost necessities to people who live in their regions, but this mechanism does not allow people to get more than the allocated quantities for each family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The resolution asked gas station owners to follow the new prices, and warned \u201canyone who violates its provisions&#8221; of sanctions and accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is worth noting that Damascus\u2019 streets <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/46443\/\">still have queues of vehicles waiting in front of gas stations<\/a> to get their appropriations of gasoline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fuel crisis began to ease recently after <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/47295\/\">huge amounts of fuel entered the country coming from the Iraqi\u2019s Popular Mobilization Units\u2019 region<\/a>s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Syrian Ministry of Oil and Mineral Recourses decided on Monday to increase the appropriations for each vehicle from 30 to 40 liters per week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The administration of Syria\u2019s Baniyas Refinery declared last week the beginning of gasoline pumping after a <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/47500\/\">period of suspension<\/a> for the purpose of annual maintenance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The refinery produces less than a quarter of market demand, which is more than 100,000 barrels per day (bpd) to cover the local market, according to economists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Hogir al-Abdo<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 On Wednesday, the Syrian Department of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection adopted a resolution to raise the price of unsubsidized 95 octane fuel by 35 percent.
