{"id":47143,"date":"2020-09-21T15:45:55","date_gmt":"2020-09-21T15:45:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=47143"},"modified":"2020-09-21T15:45:56","modified_gmt":"2020-09-21T15:45:56","slug":"james-jeffrey-us-special-representative-makes-surprise-visit-to-northeastern-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/47143\/","title":{"rendered":"James Jeffrey, US Special Representative, makes surprise visit to northeastern Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) &#8211; <\/strong>An informed Syrian Kurdish source confirmed to North Press on Monday that United States Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey met yesterday with a delegation from the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source said that during the meeting, several topics were discussed in northeastern Syria, including the possibilities of finding comprehensive <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/36763\/\">political solutions for Syrian crisis<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Local and international media declared the arrival of Jeffrey on Sunday in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) on a surprise visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to what was reported by the diplomatic source to North Press, Jeffrey stressed the importance of the commitment of all parties to the cease-fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-wordpress alignright wp-block-embed\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"voxNetAvN4\"><a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/36751\/\">James Jeffrey: We will help Russia politically in Syria if they stay away from Assad and Iran<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; clip: rect(1px, 1px, 1px, 1px);\" title=\"&#8220;James Jeffrey: We will help Russia politically in Syria if they stay away from Assad and Iran&#8221; &#8212; North press agency\" src=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/36751\/embed\/#?secret=CYU5Vev8mB#?secret=voxNetAvN4\" data-secret=\"voxNetAvN4\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe> \n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source indicated that Jeffrey also spoke about opening the way for dialogue between the Syrian parties and external parties involved in the Syrian crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source said that the report issued recently by the <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/46804\/\">International Commission for Human Rights<\/a> was also discussed, which talked about human rights violations committed by Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition groups in northern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UN investigators accused Turkey and its affiliated Syrian opposition groups of committing violations that may amount to war crimes against civilians in northern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/45663\/\">Michelle Bachelet<\/a>, said that the human rights situation in parts of northern Syria (referring to areas under Turkish control) is &#8220;dire.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US envoy said that US supports the representation of the SDC in international dialogue platforms regarding finding a solution to the Syrian crisis, according to United Nations resolution 2245.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source also indicated that Jeffrey stressed his support for the continuation of the initiative of the commander of SDF, Mazloum Abdi, for <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/36997\/\">intra-Kurdish dialogue in northeastern Syria<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said that he is closely following the matter with the US State Department team present in the region, according to the source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>(Reporting by Hosheng Hassan)<\/strong><\/h4>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HASAKAH, Syria (North Press) &#8211; An informed Syrian Kurdish source confirmed to North Press on Monday that United States Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey met yesterday with a delegation from the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) and the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
