As they are the main source of income for the people of the region, citizens are left facing economic crises without availability of stable resources to secure living conditions and basic materials.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">Though Syrian government forces have taken control over large areas of Aleppo&#39;s southern countryside after violent battles and clashes with armed opposition groups and the Islamic State group (ISIS) since 2018, these areas still suffer from economic neglect and lack of availability of basic services.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">Farmer Abu Samu al-Hadidi, a resident of the village of Hmeimat al-Deir, southwest of Tal al-Daman, told North-Press that he had not been able to cultivate all of his land this year because of the lack of fuel for tractors during the sowing season and the difficulty in securing necessary fertilizer for crops during the winter and spring seasons.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">He added that he endured the same circumstances last year and took the risk of planting eight hectares in light of the loss of fuel and the difficulty in obtaining fertilizers, but he could not repeat an experience that did not guarantee results.<a name=\"_gjdgxs\"><\/a> &ldquo;More than a third of the land was burned last season, so I couldn&#39;t cultivate the entire land this year,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">Farmers in southern Aleppo countryside depend on wheat, barley, and cumin crops in winter. Most of these crops depend on rainwater, in addition to cultivating areas of vegetables in the summer, while other residents graze and raise livestock.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">The residents of the area suffered from the battles which took place there and the succession of armed groups during the Syrian war, which led to the displacement of many of its residents. Others looked forward to the return of the Agriculture Directorate in Aleppo, hoping that it would support the agricultural sector and its workers, but their suffering continued even as the Syrian flag returned to official departments, according to farmers and livestock owners from the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">On the other hand, Fadi al-Ali, a doctor from Tal al-Daman in the southern Aleppo countryside and a resident in the city of Aleppo, confirmed to North-Press that they received a promise to extend an irrigation channel from Aleppo or from the area of al-Safira to the southern Aleppo countryside after they contacted government bodies in order to help farmers in the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">During its session last Thursday, the Syrian People&#39;s Assembly approved a bill which exempts loans for livestock fodder from interest and fines on late payments, but the People&#39;s Assembly did not take measures regarding many problems that farmers and livestock owners are suffering from, including the price of agricultural fertilizer, which has increased by 100%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Aleppo &ndash; North-Press Agency Sam al-Ahmad &nbsp; Agriculture and livestock continue to deteriorate in the villages of the southern Aleppo countryside after two years of Syrian government control over the area.
