The Syrian Kurdish journalist, Rodi Said, has received the first prize for the best press photo at Reuters for the year 2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nIn a letter he sent to the coronation ceremony and was read on his behalf in the United States, Rodi Said talked about the story of the first prize-winning photo and how attracted him a shaggy haired child with worn-out clothes, clinging to his mother in black who had just left from al-Baghouz camp, where the last battles took place against the Islamic State (ISIS) in al-Baghouz last year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nThe letter read: &quot;I tracked the child&#39;s movements and looks until he finally turned in an angle where sunlight reached his face, between two rows of women.&quot;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nThe letter also read: &quot;I tried to capture the suffering of this child who has emerged from the horrors of a war, whose reasons and results he didn&rsquo;t know not know, a war to where his fate has thrown him.&quot;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nSaid has been practicing photojournalism for 7 years, and he is among the few who have advanced the ladder of professionalism in his work, he said: &quot;I spent more than 90% of my work covering wars and battles.&quot;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Commenting on taking the child&#39;s photo, journalist Rodi Said, who resides in the city of Qamishli, in northeastern Syria, said in an interview with North-Press: &quot;Perhaps the depiction of children is a violation to their rights according to the professional standards of the journalistic work.&quot;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nHowever, he added: &quot;This is what should be during the practice of the journalistic work in the usual conditions and circumstances, while the situation becomes different here for a region torn by war for 7 years.&quot;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\n&quot;It is an area where there have been violations to the rights of children, women and society as a whole, so if no one conveys their tragedy through a photo, how will the world know what is happening here, as a photojournalist, I believe in the need to convey the tragedy of these innocent people,&quot; Said said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">During working on covering the war, Said went through many humanitarian situations in which he encountered children and women who were victims of the war.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nHowever, he finds himself unable to summarize what he went through in one scene only, because his destiny during the years of the war was not limited to be a photographer documenting the tragedy of the displaced and victims in his region, but alongside being a journalist he lived the tragedy in his city of Sere-Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), as a war victim and he experienced the bitter of displacement twice since 2012.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nSaid lives with his wife and young child in Qamishli, after they fled in late 2019, due to the Turkish military invasion of their city of Sere-Kaniye (Ras al-Ain).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nIt is the second time he has been forced to flee his city, as the first time was in 2012, during an attack by the Syrian opposition groups and al-Nusra Front on the city.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nSaid said that members of the opposition groups plundered his house, and it was later transformed into a military center, then &ldquo;the experience was repeated in 2019 after a direct attack by the Turkish forces and the affiliated armed opposition groups.&quot;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nHe pointed out that the years of war and his journalistic coverage have had an impact on his mental and intellectual state, &quot;After covering the battles for seven years, many priorities in my life have changed, and I have become more afraid for my family and my only child,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nHe talked about how the constant anxiety and fear that have haunted him in his final years of work which has recently led to develop heart disease, even though he is only 38 years old.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Said&#39;s photo was awarded by the agency&#39;s staff after competing in the final stage with five other photos on political topics, carnival events, protests and human rights issues, which took place in North Korea, Mexico, the United States, Chile and Hong Kong.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nThe journalist revealed that the U.S. State Department did not agree to grant him a visit visa despite submitting his request for the visit twice, which compelled him to send a letter, hoping at its end, if his award-winning photo would have succeeded in summarizing even one of the many stories about war and fear and about life in its beautiful and gloomy aspects, in the language of light and colors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Qamishli &#8211;
