HASSAKAH, Syria (North Press)- At least three wounded in an attack by sleeper cells of Islamic State (ISIS) group disguised as women on Al Hawl Camp in Syria’s northeastern province of Hassakah, security sources said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The militants hid somewhere in the camp after the attack, the sources added
\nThe camp is still witnessing a security alert where the internal security forces (Asayish) affiliated to the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are searching for the militants.<\/p>\n
\n“At about 11:30 pm last night, militants disguised in women dress attacked a section where Iraqi refugees stay,” a security source in Hawl camp told North Press.
\nThe source added that the armed group used weapons and pistols with silencers, wounding three Asayish members.<\/p>\n
\nThe Asayish said they managed to repel the attack, while the camp was still witnessing a security alert to arrest the armed group.<\/p>\n
\nThe Internal Security Forces announced that they had thwarted ISIS women escape attempt from the camp on Friday.<\/p>\n
\nHawl camp includes the largest number of ISIS women and children in Syria and Iraq, whose number reaches about 11 thousand people. According to the camp administration, the total number of its residents reaches more than 65 thousand people, distributed in 13 thousand tents. Among them, more than 40 thousand children.<\/p>\n
\nThe camp witnesses from time to time escape attempts by the families of ISIS members, in addition to assassinations and incidents in which tents are burned, as the camp administration says that militants are behind it.<\/p>\n
\nOn Wednesday, the SDF announced the arrest of four members of ISIS sleeper agents to the east of Deir ez-Zor in a security operation carried out with the support of US-led Global Coalition air forces.<\/p>\n
