{"id":36340,"date":"2019-12-17T09:07:38","date_gmt":"2019-12-17T09:07:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=36340"},"modified":"2019-12-17T09:07:38","modified_gmt":"2019-12-17T09:07:38","slug":"The new residents of Tal Abyad, testimonies refute Turkey s claims to return local Syrians into their areas ","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/36340\/","title":{"rendered":"The new residents of Tal Abyad, testimonies refute Turkey s claims to return local Syrians into their areas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><strong>Raqqa &#8211; North-Press Agency<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Roj Mousa<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">The Turkish resettlement process for the displaced Syrians began in the town of Tal Abyad (Gire Spi), north of Raqqa and Sere-Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) north of Hasakah, after the Turkish military and its affiliated armed groups managed to take control over these areas over the past two months after the Turkish military invasion began in northeastern Syria.<br \/>\nIn contradiction with the Turkish plans to resettle three million displaced people distributed inside Turkish territories and some major camps on the Turkish-Syrian borders, the Turkish military and its affiliated armed groups within the Syrian National Army have moved dozens of families from northern and eastern Aleppo countryside into the town of Tal Abyad (Gire Spi), before implementing what they promoted about the return of Syrian refugees back from the Turkish territories into areas they had recently seized in northeastern Syria.<br \/>\nNorth-Press managed to enter the town of Tal Abyad (Gire Spi) after Turkey controlled it, along with its affiliated armed groups, and documented the entry of dozens of families from Damascus and Aleppo coming there from Afrin region via the town of Jarablus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><strong>Internal resettlement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nAbu Bilal, a displaced person from Damascus entered Tal Abyad about two weeks ago to live in an empty house with his family, telling North-Press that their condition at first was poor, then it improved and they were provided with the basics of living. Abu Bilal&rsquo;s trip was not short after they were displaced from Damascus 3 years ago. So, he went to the city of Afrin and stayed until the Turkish attacks on northeastern Syria began, then the local council in Jarablus in the north-eastern countryside of Aleppo opened a special office to register the names of those who wish to move into the areas of Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain, where Abu Bilal was one of the beneficiaries of this office.<br \/>\nAbu Bilal ended his brief speech by saying: &quot;The situation here is ten times better than Afrin,&quot; referring to the current situation in the areas of control of the Turkish-backed armed groups and the Turkish occupation in Tal Abyad (Gire Spi).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">While Ahmed Abu Muhammad, from&nbsp; al-Ashrafieh neighbourhood in Aleppo, said that he left Aleppo in 2016 into Afrin, while fleeing the ferocity of the bombing of the Russian and Syrian war-planes.<br \/>\nAbu Muhammad continued his journey like Abu Bilal to reach Jarablus, then he registered his name on the lists of the local council to move him and his family into Tal Abyad, where he said: &quot;The situation is improving for better.&quot;<br \/>\nMore than two hundred families from the areas controlled by the Turkish-backed armed groups left areas in northern and eastern countryside of Aleppo, via Karkamis border-crossing (Jarablus), passing through the Turkish territories, and into Syrian territories via Akcakale (Tal Abyad) border-crossing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Turkey had closed the crossing since 2015 after the defeat of the Islamic State terrorist group (ISIS) in Tal Abyad (Gre Spi), and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) control over the town, then to re-opening the border gate again on November 21 by removing the cement walls.<br \/>\nThe first families arrived on November 21, 2019, according to a statement published by the Turkish Defense Ministry, indicating 400 thousand residents of East Euphrates have left their areas, announcing the start of what it called &quot;voluntary return&quot;, noting that the return of about 200 Syrians from the Euphrates Shield regions into their homes in Ras al-Ain and Tal Abyad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><strong>Nationalization of the groups&#39; families<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nThe Violations Documentation Center in northern Syria (VDC-NSY), a human rights center concerned with the internal affairs of the armed groups held areas in northern Aleppo countryside; and recently in northern Raqqa countryside and Hasakah. According to one of the sources that Turkey collected the names of the dead from the armed groups participating in the Turkish military invasion in northeastern Syria, to nationalize their families and relatives.<br \/>\nThe source added in a report published in late November that the Turkish government and its affiliated armed groups have been operating tours for families from areas north of Aleppo, after offering temptations and facilities for those who wish to leave into Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Sarah Leah Whitson, the executive director of the Middle East divisionDivision at Human Rights Watch, said in a report published by the organization about the Turkish violations and crimes in the areas it had recently controlled: &quot;Executions, looting of properties, and preventing the return of the displaced people to their homes are irrefutable evidence that the proposed safe zone of Turkey will not be safe. Contrary to the Turkish narrative that its military operation will create a safe zone, the armed groups that Turkey use to administer the area commit war-crimes and violations against the local civilians and are discriminated on the basis of ethnicity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><strong>Launch resettlement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nOn December 9, it was announced the start of the settling process of a million Syrians in the areas on the Syrian borders, during the speech of the Turkish President Erdogan before the ministers of Social Affairs of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul, recalling his plans to build new housing units in the area between Tal Abyad (Gre-Spi) and Ras al-Ain (Sere Kanye).<br \/>\nTurkey revealed its plan for the safe zone project last September in a session of the United Nations, through Erdogan&#39;s announcement of his intention to build 200 thousand housing units in 140 new villages with Qatari funding, as Qatar had confirmed its financial support for this project in mid-November.<br \/>\nThe Turkish President Erdogan revealed in an interview with the Turkish channel &quot;A Haber&quot;, which was broadcasted on Sunday evening, that his country proposed to the United States the establishment of a safe zone in northern Syria based on the Syrian oil revenues.<br \/>\nHe clarified the method of relying on the Syrian oil revenues, by saying: &quot;We said let&#39;s sell oil here and set up a safe zone based on the revenues that we will get from that. We prepared a project, action plans and everything was ready.
