{"id":36295,"date":"2019-12-03T11:22:24","date_gmt":"2019-12-03T11:22:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=36295"},"modified":"2019-12-03T11:22:24","modified_gmt":"2019-12-03T11:22:24","slug":"Reduction of the Christian role in the Constitutional Committee - Christian politicians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/36295\/","title":{"rendered":"Reduction of the Christian role in the Constitutional Committee &#8211; Christian politicians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify\"><strong>Qamishli &#8211; North-Press Agency<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Reem Chamoun &#8211; Sargon Yousef<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nPoliticians from the Syriac and Assyrian constituents and citizens of the city of Qamishli said that the representation of the Christian component is not realistic and that each segment of reference, with demands to understand the rights of Christians in the region, knowing all the details.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Sanharib Barsoum, the co-chair of the Syriac Union Party told North-Press that the Syriac-Chaldean-Assyrian and Christian component is an essential component in the region, as there is a reduction in the size of this component and its role in forming the Constitutional Committee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nHe pointed out that the representation of this component is very little, and it does not reflect the reality or the size and effectiveness to build a new Syria. Mr. Barsoum added: &quot;We as a Syriac Union Party are marginalized in this constitution, and many institutions concerned with our people are also marginalized to be represented.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&quot;We want the representation of the committee to be fair and balanced among all the components, and not to be in accordance with the tendencies of the major countries, especially with Astana (Alliance) countries, which decided this committee; moreover, the United Nations should play a major role in the composition of this Committee, and seek comprehensive representation of all parties and components,&quot; he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">While Daoud Daoud, an official of the Assyrian Democratic Organization explained that each of the segments participating in the Constitutional Committee has its own references.<br \/>\nThe opposition party has its own reference in the mini-committee and the enlarged fifty committee is the negotiating body. Daoud also noted that the Assyrian Democratic Organization has representatives in the negotiating body and the committee of fifty, pointing out that the decisions are taken within the negotiating body and the committee of fifty.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">He also stressed that this Constitutional Committee working within the framework of resolution 2254 which provides for non-sectarian rule, representing all religious and ethnic components in addition to the living principles set by the former international envoy Staffan de Mistura, and the establishment of a democratic state representing all segments and components of the Syrian people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">\nWhile Rabil Elias, a Syriac citizen from the city of Qamishli told North-Press: &quot;In Geneva talks, which is the beginning of a political solution for Syria, there are representatives of the Christian people in the Constitutional Committee but we have not seen any representative of us in the mini-constitutional committee.&quot; He hoped the representatives of the Christian people at Geneva Talks could convey their voices and rights to the officials there, and called on the Mini-Committee to understand their rights in the region, knowing all the details.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Qamishli &#8211; North-Press Agency Reem Chamoun &#8211; Sargon Yousef Politicians from the Syriac and Assyrian constituents and citizens of the city of Qamishli said that the representation of the Christian component is not realistic and that each segment of reference, with demands to understand the rights of Christians in the region, knowing all the details.
