{"id":141304,"date":"2026-09-09T17:55:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T17:55:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=141304"},"modified":"2026-09-09T17:55:11","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T17:55:11","slug":"netanyahu-tours-mount-hermon-in-southern-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/141304\/","title":{"rendered":"Netanyahu tours Mount Hermon in southern Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Mount Hermon in southern Syria on Wednesday with Defense Minister Israel Katz and senior military officers, reiterating Israel\u2019s control over the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a video released by Netanyahu\u2019s office, he said Israel was at the summit of Mount Hermon on the eve of the Jewish New Year and claimed that Israel controlled the area from Mount Hermon to the Yarmouk River and onward to the Mediterranean Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe will not allow any terror army to establish itself on our border,\u201d Netanyahu said, describing the control of the area as one of what he called the major achievements of Israel\u2019s \u201cWar of Revival.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Netanyahu said the Israeli military had received a security briefing during the visit on operations being conducted in the area. The briefing was delivered by Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo and 210th Division commander Brig. Gen. Yair Peli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also said Israel\u2019s main remaining task was to defeat what he called the \u201cterror regime\u201d in Iran, claiming that Israel was \u201cvery close\u201d to achieving that goal and that the Iranian-led regional \u201caxis\u201d would eventually collapse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Netanyahu\u2019s visit came as Israel continues to maintain military positions in southern Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad\u2019s government in December 2024. Israeli forces have remained in the former U.N.-patrolled buffer zone and have repeatedly carried out military operations and incursions in southern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Damascus has condemned the Israeli military presence as a violation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity. The U.N.
