{"id":141007,"date":"2026-09-02T10:28:34","date_gmt":"2026-09-02T10:28:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=141007"},"modified":"2026-09-02T10:28:35","modified_gmt":"2026-09-02T10:28:35","slug":"syria-says-iaea-report-confirms-transparency-on-nuclear-files","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/141007\/","title":{"rendered":"Syria says IAEA report confirms transparency on nuclear files"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Syria\u2019s Atomic Energy Commission said on Wednesday that a recent report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reflects Damascus\u2019 commitment to transparency and cooperation in addressing outstanding nuclear issues from the former government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mudar al-Ukla, head of Syria\u2019s Atomic Energy Commission, said the agency\u2019s report demonstrated the seriousness of Syria\u2019s approach to resolving previous nuclear-related files and the level of openness it had shown in its cooperation with the IAEA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe provided full access to the requested sites and submitted the necessary information,\u201d al-Ukla told the state-run Al-Ikhbariya TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the cooperation enabled the IAEA to resolve outstanding issues, including verification related to the al-Kibar site in Deir ez-Zor and other locations connected to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al-Ukla indicated that Syrian authorities had also disclosed around 73 tons of natural uranium, which had been placed under the IAEA safeguards system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAll nuclear materials and sites are now under the safeguards system,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The remarks followed a recent IAEA <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/140994\/\">report<\/a> which found that the former Syrian government had failed to declare nuclear material, facilities and activities required under Syria\u2019s safeguards agreement with the agency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report said inspections had confirmed the existence of a reactor under construction in Deir ez-Zor, as well as sites associated with nuclear fuel fabrication, storage and planned reprocessing activities. The IAEA also verified an undeclared site containing approximately 73 tons of natural uranium metal, according to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The al-Kibar facility in eastern Syria was destroyed in an Israeli airstrike in 2007 amid international suspicions that Syria had been pursuing an undeclared nuclear program.
