{"id":140666,"date":"2026-08-24T19:08:45","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T19:08:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=140666"},"modified":"2026-08-24T19:09:31","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T19:09:31","slug":"u-s-unveils-new-sanctions-push-to-squeeze-irans-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/140666\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. unveils new sanctions push to squeeze Iran\u2019s economy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on Monday a new sanctions campaign targeting Iran\u2019s economy and warned countries doing business with Tehran they could face secondary sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bessent described the initiative as \u201cOperation Economic Outcast\u201d and called it an \u201ceconomic D-Day,\u201d saying Washington would seek to cut off Iran\u2019s remaining sources of revenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. Treasury also imposed sanctions on about 60 entities linked to Iran, targeting sectors including digital assets, gold, technology, aviation, and shipping, according to Reuters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bessent said the United States would not immediately impose penalties on countries that continue doing business with Iran, but warned that such measures could follow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is no ambiguity as to the position of the United States,\u201d Bessent said, warning that any economic engagement with the Iranian government could expose those involved to U.S. sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked whether China would be subject to the initiative, Bessent said no country was exempt, as China remains a major buyer of Iranian oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new measures come as Washington seeks to intensify economic pressure on Tehran amid stalled diplomatic efforts and an ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Atoun Jan<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced on Monday a new sanctions campaign targeting Iran\u2019s economy and warned countries doing business with Tehran they could face secondary sanctions.
