{"id":140614,"date":"2026-08-23T18:48:23","date_gmt":"2026-08-23T18:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=140614"},"modified":"2026-08-23T18:48:24","modified_gmt":"2026-08-23T18:48:24","slug":"syrias-oil-watchdog-uncovers-over-8-million-in-public-fund-losses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/140614\/","title":{"rendered":"Syria\u2019s oil watchdog uncovers over $8 million in public fund losses"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press)<\/strong> &#8211; Syria\u2019s Central Inspection and Control Board has uncovered initial public fund losses exceeding $8 million linked to violations in oil production, transport, contracts and maintenance, mainly in Deir ez-Zor fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Malek Hamada, director of the board\u2019s Oil Administration, said inspectors found violations in oil production and transport, including the suspension of production at several wells and the failure to bring oil fields and stations into production despite the presence of oil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hamada told Syria\u2019s state-run Al-Ikhbariya that the board received information and complaints from residents of Deir ez-Zor about oil theft and the improper use of oil resources. It formed several inspection teams to investigate the reports in coordination with the Energy Ministry, which provided the requested documents and information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the head of the board formed a team of about 22 inspectors, joined by the head of its Deir ez-Zor branch and working in coordination with the energy minister. The team conducted field inspections to assess operations at the oil fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The inspection, which included several petroleum experts, uncovered contracts for well maintenance awarded to companies that were not qualified and lacked the technical capacity to carry out the work, Hamada said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The committees have identified initial losses but are still working to determine the full extent of the damage, he said.
