{"id":140294,"date":"2026-08-15T09:18:28","date_gmt":"2026-08-15T09:18:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=140294"},"modified":"2026-08-15T09:18:30","modified_gmt":"2026-08-15T09:18:30","slug":"lebanese-court-charges-former-assad-regime-general-with-torture-killing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/140294\/","title":{"rendered":"Lebanese court charges former Assad regime general with torture, killing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Lebanese authorities on Friday announced that charges of torture and killing had been brought against former Syrian Army Major General Adel Issa, who was detained in Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The case against Issa entered a sensitive stage after Lebanon\u2019s Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation issued an arrest warrant against him over allegations of killing, torture and inciting sectarian strife in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The former Syrian general was questioned based on an extradition request submitted by the Syrian transitional government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lebanese authorities are considering whether to extradite Issa to the Syrian authorities or keep him subject to prosecution in Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, Lebanese authorities detained Issa, the former commander of the Syrian Army\u2019s Division 17 under the al-Assad regime, after he entered the Syrian Embassy to complete a legal transaction.
