{"id":140102,"date":"2026-08-10T16:40:02","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T16:40:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=140102"},"modified":"2026-08-10T16:40:03","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T16:40:03","slug":"attacks-target-families-returning-to-syrias-sere-kaniye","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/140102\/","title":{"rendered":"Attacks target families returning to Syria&#8217;s Sere Kaniye"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Attackers on Monday assaulted families returning to their homes in Sere Kaniye\/Ras al-Ain as part of the first convoy of displaced families returning to the city and its surrounding villages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first convoy, carrying more than 400 families, set out earlier Monday from Washokani Camp, marking the first phase of a return that comes after years of calls for a safe, organized and dignified return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Videos circulated on social media showed attacks on returnees. Local reports quoted one returnee as saying that elderly people in the convoy were directly beaten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Sere Kaniye Displaced Persons Committee held relevant authorities in Damascus, including the presidential team, as well as security authorities in Sere Kaniye and the regional administration, fully responsible for what it described as a violation of the Jan. 29 agreement regarding the return and protection of displaced people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The committee called for restoring security, protecting returnees, and pursuing and arresting those responsible for the attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the Internal Security Forces in Hasakah said they intervened to disperse a dispute in Ras al-Ain following the return of several families to their homes without prior coordination, which led to a dispute with current residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The forces denied reports that displaced families from Ghwayran or Hasakah had intervened to prevent returnees from entering their homes, saying authorities were handling the incident through legal procedures to ensure the rights of returnees and the safety of all citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dozens of protesters also gathered in Hasakah and Qamishli outside the Public Security Center to protest the attacks against Sere Kaniye returnees, amid efforts by authorities to contain tensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By: Taysir Muhammad<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Attackers on Monday assaulted families returning to their homes in Sere Kaniye\/Ras al-Ain as part of the first convoy of displaced families returning to the city and its surrounding villages.
