{"id":140022,"date":"2026-08-09T06:48:55","date_gmt":"2026-08-09T06:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=140022"},"modified":"2026-08-09T06:48:57","modified_gmt":"2026-08-09T06:48:57","slug":"egypt-says-ties-with-syria-normal-supports-stability","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/140022\/","title":{"rendered":"Egypt says ties with Syria \u2018normal,\u2019 supports stability"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Saturday described relations between Egypt and Syria as \u201cnormal,\u201d saying the two countries have a long-standing historical bond and that bilateral ties are developing well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking in an interview with Al-Ghad TV, Abdelatty said Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani had visited Cairo and that he plans to visit Damascus in the future. He also noted to visits by Egyptian economic and trade delegations to Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur relations are normal and moving well,\u201d Abdelatty said, adding that Egypt \u201cfully supports security and stability in Syria and the well-being of the Syrian people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He pointed out that Cairo would share advice with its Syrian counterparts when necessary, arguing that Syria\u2019s security and stability are \u201can assured Egyptian and Arab interest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abdelatty indicated that Egypt supports an inclusive political process in Syria that does not exclude any group, as well as efforts to combat terrorism and prevent Syria from becoming a source of threats to the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Egypt and Syria have longstanding political and cultural ties. The two countries formed the United Arab Republic in 1958, a political union that ended when Syria withdrew in 1961.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Relations have gained renewed momentum since the fall of Bashar al-Assad\u2019s government in December 2024. Egypt has repeatedly called for Syria\u2019s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, while supporting an inclusive, Syrian-led political process and the strengthening of national state institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met Syria\u2019s President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Cairo in March 2025, their first face-to-face meeting. Sisi called for an inclusive political process involving all Syrians and stressed the importance of preserving Syria\u2019s unity and territorial integrity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In May 2026, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani visited Cairo for talks with Abdelatty. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, economic cooperation and regional developments. Egyptian officials also stressed support for Syria\u2019s sovereignty, unity and stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In June, Abdelatty and al-Shaibani discussed expanding economic and trade cooperation and welcomed preparations for a second Egyptian-Syrian governmental meeting involving ministries and agencies concerned with trade and investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Egypt has also emphasized its interest in supporting Syria\u2019s reconstruction.
