{"id":138945,"date":"2026-07-09T16:50:06","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T16:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=138945"},"modified":"2026-07-09T16:50:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T16:50:08","slug":"syrian-interior-ministry-announces-arrest-of-senior-isis-leader","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/138945\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian Interior Ministry announces arrest of senior ISIS leader"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Syria\u2019s Interior Ministry announced on Thursday that its security forces had dismantled several Islamic State (ISIS) cells in southern Syria, arresting a senior leader and several members accused of involvement in assassinations and financing activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, the ministry said its specialized units, in coordination with the General Intelligence Service, carried out a series of security operations that led to the arrest of Firas al-Dagher, described as a senior ISIS leader, along with several individuals allegedly responsible for assassination operations and financial support for the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the ministry, investigations showed that al-Dagher held several leadership positions within ISIS, beginning with what the group referred to as the Jaidour Sector and the Western Region, before later serving as the group\u2019s self-declared \u201cgovernor of Lebanon and Palestine\u201d and acting as a personal aide to the organization\u2019s self-proclaimed caliph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ministry said investigations also revealed the involvement of the dismantled cells in several assassinations and robbery cases targeting gold merchants in Daraa governorate.
