ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> A Syrian woman activist on Sunday said there are key messages that women’s groups want to deliver to members of Syria’s newly formed People’s Assembly, including calls for constitutional reform ahead of the parliament’s inaugural session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abeer Fares, head of the Women’s Office at the Political Affairs Directorate in Aleppo, northwestern Syria, told North Press during a conference on the status of women in Syria organized by female activists, that there are messages they want to convey to members of the People’s Assembly, particularly regarding the constitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fares said the first session of the new parliament is expected to convene within days, stressing the need for broad dialogue with all segments of Syrian society to ensure lawmakers hear public demands, especially those concerning amendments to what she described as outdated constitutional provisions that have remained in place for many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She added that some existing laws continue to create excessive bureaucracy and hinder effective governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fares expressed hope that the new People’s Assembly would play a meaningful role in driving change across Syrian society, particularly by strengthening women’s representation and expanding their role in decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
