{"id":138666,"date":"2026-06-29T07:15:30","date_gmt":"2026-06-29T07:15:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=138666"},"modified":"2026-06-29T07:15:31","modified_gmt":"2026-06-29T07:15:31","slug":"us-iran-agree-to-halt-latest-gulf-escalation-resume-talks-in-qatar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/138666\/","title":{"rendered":"US, Iran agree to halt latest Gulf escalation, resume talks in Qatar"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> A U.S. official on Monday said that the United States and Iran had reached an agreement to halt the latest round of military escalation in the Gulf and resume technical negotiations on all provisions of the memorandum of understanding signed between the two sides on June 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The agreement provides for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to maritime traffic and a temporary suspension of reciprocal military strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Axios, negotiations are set to resume in Qatar on Tuesday, marking a return to the diplomatic track after days of clashes that had threatened to derail the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision to restart talks follows a series of military exchanges triggered by an attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, with both Washington and Tehran accusing each other of violating the temporary ceasefire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iran also launched missiles and drones targeting U.S. military sites in Kuwait and Bahrain after U.S. President Donald Trump warned that Washington could carry out a decisive strike against Iran if it failed to comply with the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A U.S. official confirmed that American military facilities had come under attack but said no casualties or significant damage had been reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regional tensions continued to widen as Israel announced strikes targeting Hezbollah members and infrastructure in southern Lebanon, despite its recent agreement on a ceasefire framework with Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the U.S. military carried out fresh strikes inside Iran following an attack on an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz, as Trump warned that continued escalation could ultimately lead to the military overthrow of the Islamic Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although the temporary memorandum of understanding was intended to halt hostilities and create conditions for negotiations on more complex issues\u2014most notably Iran&#8217;s nuclear program\u2014new signs have highlighted the fragility of the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tehran announced it would not participate in the scheduled technical talks, arguing that the United States had failed to fulfill certain commitments, including enabling Iran to access funds that had been unfrozen under the deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The developments coincided with an exchange of accusations and military operations across the region. Iran&#8217;s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had targeted U.S. bases in the Gulf, while Kuwait announced it had intercepted two ballistic missiles.
