QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea rejected on Thursday a proposal suggesting Syrian forces could enter Lebanon to help address the issue of Hezbollah\u2019s weapons, describing the idea as \u201cnot viable\u201d and lacking support from Lebanese and Arab parties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking in an interview with Lebanon\u2019s MTV channel, Geagea said that \u201cno one agrees with what was attributed to the US president regarding the possibility of Syrian forces entering Lebanon to address the Hezbollah issue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that opposition to the proposal extends beyond Lebanese political actors and includes regional and international parties involved in the Lebanese file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Geagea also said that Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa does not support such an approach, praising what he described as the Syrian president\u2019s positive policy toward Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNeither President Ahmad al-Sharaa, whose policy toward Lebanon we appreciate, nor Saudi Arabia, nor the Arab countries, nor the Lebanese state, nor we ourselves support this option. Therefore, it is not viable,\u201d Geagea said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further noted that Saudi Arabia, several Arab states, the Lebanese government, and the Lebanese Forces party all oppose the proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The remarks come amid ongoing domestic and regional discussions over the future of Hezbollah\u2019s weapons and efforts to place military decision-making exclusively under Lebanese state institutions, alongside growing international calls in that direction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The issue remains a central subject of political debate in Lebanon, where parties continue to stress that any solution should be pursued through constitutional institutions and political consensus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The comments also reflect continued sensitivity in Lebanon regarding any proposal involving a renewed military role for Syria in the country, following the withdrawal of Syrian forces from Lebanon in 2005 after decades of presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
