{"id":138367,"date":"2026-06-15T06:38:29","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T06:38:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=138367"},"modified":"2026-06-15T06:38:31","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T06:38:31","slug":"syria-rejects-u-s-proposal-for-intervention-in-lebanon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/138367\/","title":{"rendered":"Syria rejects U.S. proposal for intervention in Lebanon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 <\/strong>Syrian presidential adviser Ahmad Mowaffaq Zeidan on Sunday said that Syria had rejected a proposal presented by the United States calling on Damascus to intervene in Lebanon, stressing that Syria is not concerned with any military or security involvement in Lebanese affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking in an interview with the Saudi Al Arabiya news channel, Zeidan said Syria supports efforts to extend the authority of the Lebanese state across its entire territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He emphasized that support for the Lebanese government should come through strengthening state institutions and reinforcing their legitimate authority, rather than through military intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Syria views Lebanon&#8217;s stability as an important regional interest,&#8221; Zeidan said, adding that Damascus remains committed to the principles of sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Syrian presidential adviser also directed criticism at Hezbollah, calling on the group to halt what he described as its interference in Syrian affairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Hezbollah is causing problems for the Syrian state,&#8221; Zeidan said, arguing that some of the group&#8217;s activities do not serve Syria&#8217;s stability or national interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further accused Hezbollah of supporting individuals linked to al-Assad regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The remarks come amid rising tensions in Lebanon following an Israeli strike on Beirut&#8217;s southern suburbs, as well as subsequent Iranian threats of retaliation and growing warnings of a wider regional escalation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Malin Mohammed<\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Syrian presidential adviser Ahmad Mowaffaq Zeidan on Sunday said that Syria had rejected a proposal presented by the United States calling on Damascus to intervene in Lebanon, stressing that Syria is not concerned with any military or security involvement in Lebanese affairs.
