{"id":138130,"date":"2026-06-02T11:51:52","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T11:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=138130"},"modified":"2026-06-02T11:51:53","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T11:51:53","slug":"russia-sends-supply-ship-to-syrias-khmeimim-base","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/138130\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia sends supply ship to Syria\u2019s Khmeimim base"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Russia dispatched a cargo ship to Syria to replenish supplies at its Khmeimim air base, marking the first known resupply mission since the fall of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad\u2019s government in late 2024, <em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em> reported on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Citing U.S. officials and satellite imagery analysis, the newspaper <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/middle-east\/russia-syria-air-base-c068ea9e\">reported<\/a> that the Russian cargo vessel Sparta departed from St. Petersburg in March and arrived at the Syrian port of Tartus in May after being escorted by Russian naval vessels for most of its journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The shipment is viewed as a possible indication that Moscow intends to maintain its military presence in Syria despite ongoing negotiations with the country\u2019s new leadership over the future of Russian bases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the report, satellite images and ship-tracking data reviewed by U.S. officials confirmed the vessel\u2019s arrival and its role in resupplying the Khmeimim air base in western Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open-source intelligence analysts also reported in mid-May that Sparta entered Tartus under heavy security measures.
