{"id":138006,"date":"2026-05-26T05:50:57","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T05:50:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=138006"},"modified":"2026-05-26T05:50:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T05:50:58","slug":"australian-women-children-linked-to-isis-plan-return-from-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/138006\/","title":{"rendered":"Australian women, children linked to ISIS plan return from Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> A group of seven Australian women and 12 children linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) are preparing to return to Australia from northeastern Syria, Australian authorities said on Tuesday, marking the second repatriation group this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australian Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said the government was not facilitating the travel arrangements but warned that anyone accused of crimes would face legal action upon arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThese are people who have \u200bmade the horrific choice to join a dangerous terrorist organisation and \u2060to place their children in an unspeakable situation,\u201d Burke said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the group reportedly left a camp in northeastern Syria on May 21 and could arrive in Australia within days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier in May, Australia <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/137463\/\">repatriated<\/a> four women and nine children who had spent more than seven years in camps in northeast Syria. Australian authorities later <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/137539\/\">charged<\/a> two of the women with slavery-related offences, while another woman faced terrorism-related charges, including allegedly joining ISIS.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest repatriation effort has sparked criticism from political opponents, who accused the Australian government of failing to halt the returns. Canberra, however, said there were \u201cvery serious limits\u201d to preventing Australian citizens from re-entering the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Australian officials added that intelligence and law enforcement agencies had spent years preparing for such cases and had monitoring measures in place for returnees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Between 2012 and 2016, several Australian women travelled to Syria with husbands affiliated with ISIS.
