The status has shielded Syrian nationals from deportation and allowed them to work legally in the United States because conditions in their homeland \u2013 including security risks, political instability, displaced populations, and destruction of infrastructure \u2013 have made safe return impossible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Trump administration\u2019s broader push to rescind TPS for Syrians is part of a wider effort affecting dozens of nationalities, arguing that decisions on TPS designations and terminations rest within executive authority and are not subject to judicial review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During oral arguments, U.S. Solicitor General John Sauer maintained that revoking TPS falls under foreign policy discretion and should remain insulated from court scrutiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Opposing lawyers for Syrian TPS holders stressed that conditions in Syria remain unsafe, citing ongoing instability and humanitarian concerns that prompted the original TPS designation more than a decade ago.
