{"id":137251,"date":"2026-04-29T10:25:49","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T10:25:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=137251"},"modified":"2026-04-29T10:25:55","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T10:25:55","slug":"leaked-saydnaya-videos-may-harm-justice-process-rights-advocate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/137251\/","title":{"rendered":"Leaked Saydnaya videos may harm justice process &#8211; Rights advocate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Bassem al-Ahmad, Executive Director of Syrians for Truth and Justice (STJ), on Wednesday said that videos from Saydnaya Prison\u2014whether leaked or privately stored\u2014constitute additional evidence of human rights violations, warning that \u201cpublishing or leaking such footage often harms the course of justice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al-Ahmad told North Press that the appearance of prison guards in the clips could prompt them to destroy evidence once they realize they may face prosecution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Tuesday, Syrians circulated video clips on social media showing scenes from inside Saydnaya Prison, just days before the collapse of the former Syrian government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to what was shared online, the footage appears to be from internal surveillance cameras. One clip shows the date Dec. 2, 2024\u2014about six days before the government\u2019s collapse\u2014raising questions about the timing of the leak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al-Ahmad questioned the motives behind releasing the material. \u201cThe key question is why this volume of archive material is being published.
