{"id":136878,"date":"2026-04-09T06:56:25","date_gmt":"2026-04-09T06:56:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=136878"},"modified":"2026-04-09T06:56:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-09T06:56:38","slug":"washington-tehran-meeting-unlikely-to-resolve-major-disputes-expert","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/136878\/","title":{"rendered":"Washington\u2013Tehran meeting unlikely to resolve major disputes \u2013 Expert"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> A planned meeting between the United States and Iran on April 10 in Pakistan is a practical step following the announced ceasefire, but it is unlikely to settle the core disputes between the two sides, an expert told North Press on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Isaac Andakian, an international crisis management expert, said that the encounter between delegations from United States and Iran aims to open a diplomatic track to reduce military tensions and discuss regional and security files after what he described as \u201cunprecedented Iranian missile attacks\u201d affecting several Gulf and Arab states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe meeting will not resolve the major contentious issues, but it represents an attempt to de-escalate and prevent a widening of military confrontation in the region,\u201d Andakian added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He described the talks as \u201ca pulse-check\u201d between the two sides amid deep mistrust following failed negotiations previously held in Muscat and Geneva, which he linked to the outbreak of war on Feb. 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Washington-based expert, long-standing disputes over Iran\u2019s uranium enrichment, its nuclear program, long-range ballistic missiles, and its regional allies \u201ccannot be resolved through military action, but through negotiation and dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He indicated that Friday\u2019s (April 10) meeting is unlikely to end the ongoing war, citing the involvement of multiple regional and international actors, including China and Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He pointed out that Israel has continued military operations involving Lebanon despite a brief statement by Shehbaz Sharif announcing a US\u2013Iran ceasefire \u201cacross all areas, including Lebanon.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Andakian said the complexity of the files \u2014 spanning regional security, Israel\u2019s security, sanctions on Iran, and global energy risks linked to the Strait of Hormuz \u2014 makes a swift end to the conflict unlikely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Abdulsalam Khoja<\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 A planned meeting between the United States and Iran on April 10 in Pakistan is a practical step following the announced ceasefire, but it is unlikely to settle the core disputes between the two sides, an expert told North Press on Thursday.
