{"id":136751,"date":"2026-04-06T07:38:36","date_gmt":"2026-04-06T07:38:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=136751"},"modified":"2026-04-06T07:38:38","modified_gmt":"2026-04-06T07:38:38","slug":"ukraine-syria-discuss-security-trade-reopening-embassies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/136751\/","title":{"rendered":"Ukraine, Syria discuss security, trade, reopening embassies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine\u2019s foreign minister, said on Sunday that he held talks with his Syrian counterpart Asaad al\u2011Shaibani on security, trade, food cooperation and plans to reopen embassies in both capitals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/mfa.gov.ua\/en\/news\/andrij-sibiga-proviv-zustrich-z-ministrom-zakordonnih-sprav-siriyi-asaadom-hasanom-ash-shejbani1\">statement<\/a> following the meeting, Sybiha said the two sides discussed \u201ca range of important areas and initiatives, first and foremost related to security,\u201d stressing that \u201cthe security of Europe and the Middle East is interlinked.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that Kyiv and Damascus would continue working together to advance \u201ca lasting peace for our peoples.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The talks also covered logistics and the development of trade and maritime routes, which Sybiha described as areas with \u201cstrong potential\u201d to deepen economic cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Food security was another key topic. Sybiha said Ukraine was ready to contribute to regional stability through initiatives such as Grain from Ukraine, aimed at supporting countries facing food shortages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Ukrainian minister, bilateral trade between the two countries has increased ninefold since the signing of a joint communiqu\u00e9 to restore diplomatic relations, with further opportunities for expansion identified during the talks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Humanitarian and educational cooperation were also discussed, with Sybiha noting that many Syrian students have studied and continue to study in Ukraine, describing this as \u201ca strong foundation\u201d for future collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The two ministers agreed to reopen embassies in Kyiv and Damascus in the near future, a step Sybiha said would help strengthen the partnership between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Taysir Mohammed&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Andrii Sybiha, Ukraine\u2019s foreign minister, said on Sunday that he held talks with his Syrian counterpart Asaad al\u2011Shaibani on security, trade, food cooperation and plans to reopen embassies in both capitals.
