{"id":135953,"date":"2026-03-04T07:52:55","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T07:52:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=135953"},"modified":"2026-03-04T07:52:57","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T07:52:57","slug":"767-civilians-killed-by-war-remnants-in-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/135953\/","title":{"rendered":"767 civilians killed by war remnants in Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> At least 767 civilians were killed in Syria by landmines and unexploded ordnance left behind by years of conflict since the fall of the former Syrian regime in December 2024, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) announced on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The casualties include 299 children and 54 women, highlighting the continued danger posed by explosive remnants of war across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The monitoring group said the deaths occurred between Dec. 8, 2024, when the government of former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad collapsed, and March 3, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the report, 80 civilians were killed between Dec. 8 and the end of 2024 due to explosions of leftover munitions, including 12 children and six women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout 2025, at least 599 civilians died in similar incidents, including 192 children and 41 women, in areas controlled by the Syrian government, the Kurdish Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria and factions of the Syrian National Army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The deadliest month recorded in 2025 was January, when 118 civilians were killed, including 18 children and 10 women. Casualties remained high in the following months, with 94 deaths in February and 110 in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Additional fatalities were documented throughout the year, including 55 deaths in April, 52 in May, and 35 in June. The numbers gradually declined in the second half of the year but continued to claim lives each month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the start of 2026, the SOHR documented 88 civilian deaths from war remnants as of March 3, including 25 children and seven women.
