QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Mazloum Abdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), held on Saturday a series of high-level meetings with international leaders on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference 2026, focusing on regional stability, counterterrorism, and the implementation of Syria\u2019s integration agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdi met with U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, who, alongside Senator Lindsey Graham, introduced the \u201cSave the Kurds Act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He praised their continued support for the Kurdish people and the SDF, describing the proposed legislation as a significant step toward safeguarding stability and justice in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a separate meeting, Abdi and a Syrian delegation conferred with a bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers led by Graham, including Senators Sheldon Whitehouse, Jacky Rosen, Peter Welch, and Andy Kim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussions addressed continued U.S. engagement in Syria and congressional backing for initiatives supporting the SDF and regional security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abdi also met French President Emmanuel Macron, commending France\u2019s role in combating terrorism and supporting efforts toward a durable ceasefire and de-escalation across Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the diplomatic track, Abdi held talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani regarding progress in implementing the Jan. 29 integration agreement between the SDF and Damascus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SDF Commander expressed appreciation for Washington\u2019s facilitation of the deal and its support for the Syrian delegation\u2019s participation in Munich within a unified national framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Humanitarian issues were also on the agenda. Abdi met with Barham Salih, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, highlighting the importance of supporting displaced persons affected by recent clashes and strengthening regional stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the Syrian delegation, including Abdi, met Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. Riyadh reaffirmed its readiness to support Syrian consensus, back national integration efforts, and contribute to lifting sanctions in line with agreements reached on Jan. 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Munich meetings underscore intensified diplomatic engagement surrounding Syria\u2019s transitional phase, as regional and international actors weigh support for integration, stabilization, and reconstruction efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
