{"id":135205,"date":"2026-02-02T10:38:48","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T10:38:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=135205"},"modified":"2026-02-02T10:38:50","modified_gmt":"2026-02-02T10:38:50","slug":"iraqi-court-begins-investigating-isis-members-previously-detained-in-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/135205\/","title":{"rendered":"Iraqi court begins investigating ISIS members previously detained in Syria\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Iraq announced on Monday that it has begun investigation procedures into 1,387 members of the Islamic State (ISIS) who were previously detained in Syria and recently transferred to Iraqi custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The First Karkh Investigative Court said in a statement that investigations have commenced under the direct supervision of the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, carried out by a number of judges specializing in counterterrorism cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court added that procedures for dealing with the detainees will be conducted \u201cwithin the approved legal and humanitarian frameworks, in line with national laws and international standards.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The First Karkh Investigative Court explained that these measures come as part of Iraq\u2019s efforts to complete investigations and hold those involved in ISIS crimes accountable under applicable laws, alongside international coordination aimed at addressing the ISIS detainee file and crimes that may amount to genocide and crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Sunday, Human Rights Watch said that ISIS detainees transferred from Syria to Iraq face the risk of enforced disappearance, torture, and ill-treatment in Iraqi detention facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Abdulsalam Khoja<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Iraq announced on Monday that it has begun investigation procedures into 1,387 members of the Islamic State (ISIS) who were previously detained in Syria and recently transferred to Iraqi custody.
