{"id":135134,"date":"2026-01-31T10:14:34","date_gmt":"2026-01-31T10:14:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=135134"},"modified":"2026-01-31T10:14:36","modified_gmt":"2026-01-31T10:14:36","slug":"european-u-s-welcome-syria-sdf-agreement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/135134\/","title":{"rendered":"European, U.S. welcome Syria\u2013SDF agreement"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> The European Union welcomed on Friday the agreement reached between the Syrian transitional government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), expressing its full readiness to support the implementation of the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">EU spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Anouar El Anouni said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeas.europa.eu\/eeas\/syria-statement-spokesperson-agreement_en\">statement<\/a> published on the EU\u2019s website that a \u201cfull cessation of hostilities is needed to enable the provision of humanitarian aid, the protection of civilians and the return of internally displaced persons.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that stability in northeast Syria is crucial for the success of a comprehensive political transition in the country and for safeguarding the rights of the Syrian people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Washington, U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen described the announcement between Damascus and the SDF leadership as \u201ca critical step.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Shaheen said that achieving a unified Syria that protects all its people requires sustained dialogue from both sides, adding that she would closely monitor the implementation of the agreement. She also thanked those involved for their efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Switzerland\u2019s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs also welcomed the agreement, saying in a statement posted on X that it provides an important framework for a ceasefire and for advancing a comprehensive political transition, while encouraging continued efforts to build a state for all Syrians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel likewise welcomed the deal, saying that a lasting ceasefire\u2014alongside commitments related to integration, the rights of Syrian Kurds, and the return of displaced persons\u2014represents an important step toward a stable and unified Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Malin Mohammed<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 The European Union welcomed on Friday the agreement reached between the Syrian transitional government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), expressing its full readiness to support the implementation of the agreement.
