QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 The commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), General Mazloum Abdi, said on Sunday that his forces are prepared to begin implementing a political and security agreement in the near term, noting that understandings have already been reached on several issues with Damascus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are ready to implement the agreement in the coming short period, and there are understandings on many issues,\u201d Abdi told Kurdish-language Ronahi TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added, \u201cWe will make use of the truce period and try to achieve tangible progress on the December 18 agreement during this time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Abdi, the agreement stipulates that Syrian government forces will not enter Kurdish-majority areas. \u201cUnder the agreement, government forces will not enter the Kurdish areas, but our institutions will be integrated with state institutions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abdi stated that communication channels remain active. \u201cChannels are open on a daily basis with the Syrian state, and the United States is engaged in the negotiations through its political and military institutions,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also disclosed that discussions have included potential appointments within state structures. \u201cWe proposed names to take up government positions, including deputy defense minister and governor of Hasakah, but there is no agreed list yet,\u201d Abdi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing arrangements on the ground, the SDF commander said, \u201cKobani will lead this phase. We asked government forces not to enter Kurdish villages there, and they, in turn, agreed to this, appreciating the sensitivity of the matter.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abdi added that any understandings reached in the northeast would extend to other areas. \u201cWhat is agreed upon in the Kurdish areas here will also be implemented in Afrin and Sere Kaniye,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On accountability, he stressed, \u201cWe will hold all those responsible for violations accountable through legal means,\u201d warning against social tensions. \u201cWe must not be drawn into racism or sectarianism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abdi further noted regional political backing, saying, \u201cKurdish political leaders in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and Turkey are supporting us during this sensitive and important phase.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He concluded by emphasizing the security of predominantly Kurdish regions. \u201cThe Kurdish areas in Syria are a red line. We will fight for them until the last fighter, and no one will win this war,\u201d Abdi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
