{"id":134426,"date":"2026-01-10T17:47:38","date_gmt":"2026-01-10T17:47:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=134426"},"modified":"2026-01-10T17:47:40","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T17:47:40","slug":"us-envoy-calls-for-syrian-unity-during-damascus-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/134426\/","title":{"rendered":"US envoy calls for Syrian unity during Damascus visit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press)<\/strong> \u2013 US envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack visited on Saturday&nbsp; Damascus on behalf of President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, where he met with Syria\u2019s transitional president Ahmad al-Sharaa, Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shibani, and their team to discuss recent developments in Aleppo and the course of Syria\u2019s historic transitional phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Barrack affirmed that President Trump views this moment as \u201ca pivotal opportunity to build a new Syria, a unified state where all sects are treated with respect and dignity.\u201d He added that Washington agreed to lift sanctions \u201cto give Syria a chance to move forward.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The United States welcomed Syria\u2019s transitional phase, expressing support for the government\u2019s efforts to achieve stability, while reiterating its commitment to defeating ISIS and strengthening security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The envoy voiced concern over the latest developments in Aleppo, urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint, cease hostilities immediately, and return to dialogue in line with the March 10 and April 1, 2025 agreements between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The US State Department team accompanying Barrack confirmed readiness to facilitate constructive dialogue aimed at advancing an inclusive and responsible integration process that respects Syria\u2019s unity.
