{"id":134151,"date":"2026-01-06T07:53:31","date_gmt":"2026-01-06T07:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=134151"},"modified":"2026-01-06T07:53:35","modified_gmt":"2026-01-06T07:53:35","slug":"syrian-authorities-prepare-large-scale-security-campaign-on-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/134151\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian authorities prepare large-scale security campaign on coast"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LATAKIA, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> A government source told North Press on Tuesday that Ministries of Interior and Defense of the Syrian transitional government are preparing to launch a large-scale security campaign along the Syrian coast, allegedly aimed at pursuing cells suspected of links to the Assad regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the source, around 30,000 security and military personnel are expected to take part in the operation, as part of a broader plan to bolster stability in a region that witnessed bloody incidents over the past year, which left hundreds dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The planned campaign follows clashes that erupted after supposedly groups linked to the Assad regime targeted members of the Syrian transitional government, resulting in dozens of casualties amid accusations of sectarian-motivated violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over the past year, Alawites in Syria\u2019s coastal areas organized widespread demonstrations calling for federalism and the release of detainees, against the backdrop of escalating security and political tensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In early March 2025, Syria\u2019s northwestern coastal governorates\u2014including Latakia, Tartus and parts of Hama\u2014were engulfed in some of the deadliest violence the country had seen since the end of the Assad era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The unrest began on March 6 when armed groups reportedly linked to supporters of the ousted regime launched coordinated attacks on security checkpoints and government forces, killing dozens of security personnel. Syrian authorities said the assaults rapidly spread into widespread clashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What followed was a rapid escalation of sectarian-tinged violence.
