{"id":133990,"date":"2025-12-31T07:04:32","date_gmt":"2025-12-31T07:04:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=133990"},"modified":"2025-12-31T07:04:35","modified_gmt":"2025-12-31T07:04:35","slug":"netanyahu-trump-signal-interest-in-new-israel-syria-relations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/133990\/","title":{"rendered":"Netanyahu, Trump signal interest in new Israel\u2013Syria relations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that Israel is interested in establishing relations with Syria, despite what he described as the presence of \u201cjihadists\u201d within the Syrian army.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking in an interview with the U.S. network Fox News on Tuesday evening, Netanyahu said that \u201cdespite the fact that half of the Syrian army consists of jihadists, Israel would like to see whether it is possible to establish different relations with Damascus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Netanyahu added that Israel is closely watching developments in Syria and is open to exploring new forms of engagement, even amid ongoing security concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For his part, U.S. President Donald Trump said he had reached \u201cunderstandings\u201d with Netanyahu regarding Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a joint press conference with the Israeli prime minister in Florida, Trump expressed confidence that Israel and the Syrian president could reach an agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am sure that Israel and the Syrian president will come to an agreement, and I will do my utmost to make that happen,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier this week, Trump also stated that he hoped Netanyahu would come to terms with Syria, signaling Washington\u2019s interest in encouraging dialogue between the two sides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">By Jwan Shekaki<\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that Israel is interested in establishing relations with Syria, despite what he described as the presence of \u201cjihadists\u201d within the Syrian army.
