{"id":133554,"date":"2025-12-21T12:19:41","date_gmt":"2025-12-21T12:19:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=133554"},"modified":"2025-12-21T12:19:43","modified_gmt":"2025-12-21T12:19:43","slug":"syrian-forces-arrest-7-isis-members-including-leader-near-damascus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/133554\/","title":{"rendered":"Syrian forces arrest 7 ISIS members including leader near Damascus"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Syrian security forces in Rif Dimashq Governorate announced on Sunday the arrest of the leader of an Islamic State (ISIS) cell and six of its members during a security operation carried out in the town of Darayya, south of Damascus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ahmad al-Dalati, commander of Internal Security in Rif Dimashq, said that specialized internal security units, in coordination with the General Intelligence Service, conducted a \u201cprecise and tightly planned security operation\u201d targeting an ISIS hideout in Darayya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement published by the Ministry of Defense on Telegram, al-Dalati said the operation resulted in the complete dismantling of the cell and the arrest of its leader along with six members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that security forces seized various weapons and ammunition in the suspects\u2019 possession, which were prepared for use in terrorist activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the political transition, the new Syrian leadership has moved to restructure its security institutions and expand their mandate to include active counter-ISIS operations nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Recent arrests and security raids in areas such as Rif Dimashq reflect an early attempt to assert state authority, dismantle dormant ISIS cells, and prevent the group from exploiting security vacuums during the transition period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In parallel, Syria has begun formal steps to engage with the U.S.-led Global Coalition against ISIS.
