Representatives Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma and Marlin Stutzman of Indiana led 134 Republican lawmakers in issuing a joint statement urging guarantees that the Syrian government will adhere to the terms outlined in the legislation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMany Members of Congress, committed to seeking peace, prosperity, and tolerance for religious minorities in the region, worked with the Trump Administration and House leadership to secure assurances that snapback conditions regarding the repeal of Syrian sanctions would be enforced if Syria does not comply with the terms highlighted in the repeal language,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The lawmakers added that \u201cthe mass killings of Syrian Christians, Druze, Alawites, Kurds, and other religious and ethnic minorities must become a thing of the past.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sanctions have long been a tool of US policy, aimed at curbing abuses and limiting the Syrian government\u2019s access to international markets.
