{"id":133294,"date":"2025-12-16T06:32:10","date_gmt":"2025-12-16T06:32:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=133294"},"modified":"2025-12-16T06:32:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-16T06:32:12","slug":"sdf-says-damascus-affiliated-factions-shell-villages-near-tishrin-dam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/133294\/","title":{"rendered":"SDF says Damascus-affiliated factions shell villages near Tishrin Dam"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said on Tuesday that factions affiliated with the Syrian transitional government shelled villages near the strategic Tishrin Dam in northern Syria, warning of a dangerous escalation that threatens civilians and vital infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, the SDF said artillery and heavy weapons were used to target the villages of Haj Hussein and Sheikh Mahshi, as well as Syriatel Hill in the vicinity of the dam. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SDF held the Damascus government fully responsible for the escalation and its consequences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The SDF said the shelling poses a direct threat to the security of the area, endangers civilian lives, and risks damage to key infrastructure, particularly the Tishrin Dam, which is critical for electricity generation and water regulation in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No immediate reports of casualties or damage were available, and there was no comment from the Damascus government at the time of publication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tishrin Dam, east of Aleppo, is one of northern Syria\u2019s most important hydroelectric and water management facilities. In recent months, armed factions affiliated with Syria\u2019s transitional government have carried out repeated attacks on SDF positions around the dam, including artillery shelling and armed clashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In parallel with the \u201cDeterrence of Aggression\u201d operation on Nov. 27, 2024, which culminated in the fall of the Assad regime on Dec. 8, Turkish-backed armed factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), began attacking areas previously controlled by the SDF in the northern countryside of Aleppo, northwestern Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The operation started in villages and towns in northern Aleppo and extended to the city of Manbij in eastern Aleppo.
