{"id":133095,"date":"2025-12-11T06:18:49","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T06:18:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=133095"},"modified":"2025-12-11T06:18:58","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T06:18:58","slug":"u-s-house-of-representatives-repeals-caesar-act-sanctions-on-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/133095\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. House of Representatives repeals Caesar Act sanctions on Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> The U.S. House of Representatives approved on Wednesday the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which includes a provision to unconditionally lift the Caesar Act sanctions imposed on Syria. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bill passed with 312 votes in favor and 112 against.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both the Senate and House had previously inserted into the 3,000-page compromise version of the NDAA\u2014a sweeping annual defense policy package unveiled on Sunday\u2014a clause repealing the 2019 Caesar sanctions, a move viewed as critical for jump-starting Syria\u2019s devastated economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the document, the White House will be required to submit regular reports demonstrating that the Syrian transitional government is combating ISIS militants, safeguarding the rights of religious and ethnic minorities, and refraining from any unjustified unilateral military action against neighboring countries, including Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Following the House vote, the Senate is expected to take up the bill next week. It will then be sent to President Donald Trump, whose Republican Party holds a majority in both chambers and leads the committees that drafted the legislation, for final approval before it becomes law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">President Trump announced his intent to lift all sanctions on Syria during his first meeting with Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa last May in Saudi Arabia. His administration subsequently suspended the sanctions on a temporary basis.
