{"id":133035,"date":"2025-12-09T06:17:05","date_gmt":"2025-12-09T06:17:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=133035"},"modified":"2025-12-09T06:17:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-09T06:17:06","slug":"un-deputy-envoy-urges-justice-inclusion-one-year-after-assad-fall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/133035\/","title":{"rendered":"UN deputy envoy urges justice, inclusion one year after Assad fall"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> United Nations Deputy Special Envoy for Syria, Najat Rochdi, praised on Monday the resilience of Syrians one year into the country\u2019s political transition, calling for bold and sustained reforms to ensure a rights-based future after decades of conflict and repression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/specialenvoysyria.unmissions.org\/en\/news\/statement-attributable-united-nations-deputy-special-envoy-syria-ms-najat-rochdi-0\">statement<\/a> marking the anniversary of the fall of the Assad regime, Rochdi said Syrians had \u201castonished the world\u201d by overcoming years of authoritarian rule and seizing their first meaningful chance in generations to reshape their country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She highlighted the determination shown by individuals and communities both inside Syria and in the diaspora, noting their \u201cremarkable courage\u201d despite hardship and uncertainty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rochdi cautioned, however, that the legacy of conflict and human rights violations continues to shape daily life. Syrians, she said, \u201cstill carry the weight of a painful past\u201d even as they navigate the early stages of an \u201cimmensely complex\u201d transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The envoy underscored the need to center the fate of the missing and the rights of their families in all national and international efforts, stressing that they have long been denied answers and dignity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She also called for concrete assistance enabling refugees who wish to return to do so safely and in a manner that respects their rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rochdi reaffirmed that the UN remains \u201cunwavering\u201d in its support for Syrians as they work to rebuild fractured communities and forge an inclusive future \u201cwhere every person can stand equal in dignity, opportunity, and rights.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She emphasized that this work must align with the principles of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and the commitments reaffirmed in UN Security Council Resolution 2799.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Jwan Shekaki<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 United Nations Deputy Special Envoy for Syria, Najat Rochdi, praised on Monday the resilience of Syrians one year into the country\u2019s political transition, calling for bold and sustained reforms to ensure a rights-based future after decades of conflict and repression.
