{"id":132952,"date":"2025-12-07T09:43:05","date_gmt":"2025-12-07T09:43:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=132952"},"modified":"2025-12-07T09:43:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-07T09:43:07","slug":"aanes-urges-inclusive-path-on-syrias-first-post-assad-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/132952\/","title":{"rendered":"AANES urges inclusive path on Syria&#8217;s first post-Assad anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) commemorated on Sunday the first anniversary of the fall of the Baath regime in Syria, recalling decades of authoritarian rule and warning that the country\u2019s transitional authorities have failed to meet the aspirations that fueled years of struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement marking the occasion, the AANES said Syrians endured \u201clong decades of marginalization, repression, and the suppression of their free will,\u201d particularly against democratic activists advocating for pluralism and political change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The years of war, it added, exposed the mindset of the former regime, which relied on \u201carrests, enforced disappearances, ethnic and religious discrimination, the fragmentation of society, and the looting of the country\u2019s resources.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AANES extended congratulations to the families of those killed throughout the conflict and to \u201call Syrians of every community,\u201d describing the fall of the regime in December 2024 as \u201ca long-awaited dream\u201d and a symbol of \u201cthe victory of the people\u2019s will.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While calling the regime\u2019s fall an important step, the AANES stressed that the harder work lies ahead: building \u201ca democratic, free, decentralized Syria, where rights are protected, differences respected, and authoritarianism and marginalization are excluded.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the administration sharply criticized the performance of the Syrian transitional government over the past year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It said the national dialogue process launched in early 2025 failed to include representatives from all regions and communities, while the formation of the government and the recent parliamentary elections \u201cdid not reflect the reality or aspirations of Syrians.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statement condemned the \u201cmassacres committed in the coast and in Suwayda,\u201d saying they undermined national cohesion and fueled hate speech and extremism. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It argued that the government\u2019s policies resembled \u201cthe practices of the Baath regime itself\u2014exclusion of national forces, lack of transparency, unilateral decision-making, and disregard for the people\u2019s will.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The AANES called on all Syrian actors, along with the international community, to intensify efforts to ensure Syria becomes \u201ca genuine platform for freedom, democracy, justice, and equality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It urged the transitional government to adopt an inclusive national approach, launch a comprehensive and serious national dialogue, guarantee the safe return of displaced Syrians, and implement swift mechanisms to achieve the Syrian people\u2019s goals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Jwan Shekaki<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013 The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) commemorated on Sunday the first anniversary of the fall of the Baath regime in Syria, recalling decades of authoritarian rule and warning that the country\u2019s transitional authorities have failed to meet the aspirations that fueled years of struggle.
