{"id":132506,"date":"2025-11-25T06:02:54","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T06:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=132506"},"modified":"2025-11-25T06:02:56","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T06:02:56","slug":"un-spox-says-ne-syria-faces-highest-concentration-of-needs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/132506\/","title":{"rendered":"UN spox says NE Syria faces \u201chighest concentration of needs\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> UN Secretary-General spokesperson St\u00e9phane Dujarric said on Monday the region of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) continues to face \u201csome of the highest concentration of needs in Syria.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He stressed that humanitarian access, security, and economic recovery must remain top priorities amid growing concerns of a possible aid shutdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rudaw.net\/english\/middleeast\/syria\/241120253\">Speaking to Rudaw<\/a>, Dujarric emphasized that the region\u2014commonly known as Rojava\u2014remains \u201ca top priority for humanitarian response,\u201d noting that assistance must be paired with efforts to \u201cenhance security and economic recovery\u201d for its residents.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly warned that the Northeast Syria region relies heavily on cross-border and cross-line assistance, and that any disruption\u2014whether due to political disputes or security developments\u2014could severely impact millions of civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In past years, the UN Security Council has struggled to renew mechanisms allowing cross-border deliveries into Syria, leaving the AANES vulnerable to aid gaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The region faces compounded crises, including Turkish military escalation, economic collapse, and ongoing ISIS sleeper-cell activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the relationship between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian transitional government, the UN official underscored that \u201cthe government in Damascus has a responsibility to protect all of its people, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or anything else.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UN, Dujarric noted, \u201ccontinues to work with the government to help them in that effort.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dujarric also said that any existing understandings between the SDF and Damascus should be \u201cupheld\u201d by all parties, amid growing political and military tensions across the northeast. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The March 10 agreement between the SDF and Damascus\u2014intended to integrate security, administrative, and service institutions and guarantee Kurdish political rights\u2014has seen slow and uneven implementation in recent months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">North Press reports that joint committees formed to oversee the process have struggled with political disputes, particularly over the status of SDF forces, the handover of border crossings and oil fields, and the timetable for administrative integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Damascus has accused the SDF of delaying key obligations, while SDF officials say bureaucratic obstacles and continued Turkish threats complicate progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recent weeks, new SDF delegations traveled to Damascus to revive stalled discussions. Despite renewed meetings, major provisions remain incomplete, leaving the agreement fragile amid rising regional tensions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>By Jwan
