{"id":132368,"date":"2025-11-22T06:48:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T06:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=132368"},"modified":"2025-11-22T06:48:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T06:48:16","slug":"syria-says-israel-deal-possible-by-year-end-insists-on-return-to-dec-7-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/132368\/","title":{"rendered":"Syria says Israel deal possible by year-end, insists on return to Dec. 7 line"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Syria\u2019s Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani said on Saturday that an agreement with Israel could be reached before the end of the year, stressing that any deal must be based on the 1974 Disengagement Agreement and include a full Israeli withdrawal to the Dec. 7, 2024 line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an <a href=\"https:\/\/en.majalla.com\/node\/328379\/politics\/asaad-al-shaibani-no-deal-israel-without-troop-pullback\">interview with Al-Majalla<\/a>, al-Shaibani said the emerging framework would largely mirror the 1974 accord, which established areas free of military forces, police-only zones, and regulated military presence at specific distances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that any new arrangements would be \u201ctemporary confidence-building measures,\u201d not permanent changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe firmly reject any suggestion of discarding the 1974 framework in favour of an entirely new deal,\u201d al-Shaibani said, adding that the agreement was endorsed by the UN Security Council and remained binding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere is no justification for that. Any attempt to take advantage of our current situation to seize additional territory is unacceptable to us,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al-Shaibani confirmed that the U.S. has pledged to press Israel to withdraw to the Dec. 7 line, but emphasized that Syria would not sign any agreement before such a step takes place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;At present, there are efforts to impose a new reality on the ground, then negotiate an agreement later,&#8221; he indicated. &#8220;We reject that approach entirely.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that Syria is open to limited military restrictions in the south as part of security arrangements, provided they do not infringe on national sovereignty or alter existing security structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Any security failure in the south will be blamed on the Syrian government.
