Syrian Petroleum Company, Youssef Qabalawi, announced on Wednesday that Syria is preparing to sign contracts with two major U.S. energy companies as part of what he described as \u201ca comprehensive vision to reshape the country\u2019s energy landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking to al-Thawra newspaper on the sidelines of the 7<sup>th<\/sup> Syrian International Petroleum, Energy, and Mineral Resources Exhibition (SyrPetro 2025), Qabalawi said, \u201cThere has been significant progress in negotiations with leading international energy companies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He noted the beginning of \u201ca new phase of cooperation with Chevron,\u201d adding that \u201cConocoPhillips is also preparing to sign important contracts in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Qabalawi revealed that Syria\u2019s energy strategy includes a \u201cmajor transformation plan\u201d to permanently close the Homs refinery and redevelop the site into a fully integrated residential area with essential public services such as hospitals and schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new refinery, he said, will be constructed about 50 kilometers from the city of Homs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe new refinery will provide sufficient fuel to meet domestic needs and help Syria achieve energy self-sufficiency, with an eventual goal of exporting,\u201d Qabalawi added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These developments, according to the Syrian official, are part of \u201ca broader national strategy to redefine Syria\u2019s energy map.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum stated, according to <em>Syria Now<\/em> platform, that \u201cthe United States is in talks with Syria to invest in the country\u2019s oil and gas
