{"id":132006,"date":"2025-11-11T06:40:56","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T06:40:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=132006"},"modified":"2025-11-11T06:40:57","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T06:40:57","slug":"state-secretary-announces-sanctions-suspension-on-syria-post-assad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/132006\/","title":{"rendered":"State Secretary announces sanctions suspension on Syria post-Assad"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Monday the suspension of mandatory sanctions under the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act, citing the \u201cactions taken by the Syrian government\u201d following the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.state.gov\/releases\/2025\/11\/sanctions-relief-that-gives-the-syrian-people-a-chance-at-greatness\/\">press statement<\/a>, Rubio said the suspension supports Syria\u2019s efforts \u201cto rebuild its economy, restore ties with foreign partners, and foster prosperity and peace for all its citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rubio added that the decision aligns with the policy direction set by U.S. President Donald Trump, who \u201cmade clear the United States expects to see concrete actions by the Syrian government to turn the page on the past and work towards peace in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Rubio, the suspension was issued under Section 7432(b)(1) of the Caesar Syria Civilian Protection Act of 2019, which allows for temporary relief when the U.S. government determines that conditions in Syria have significantly changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Departments of State, Treasury, and Commerce jointly released an <a href=\"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/131998\/\">advisory<\/a> detailing the scope of sanctions relief and the types of activities now permissible for American and foreign entities engaging with Syria. The advisory also highlights continuing restrictions to prevent human rights abuses and illicit financial activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Caesar Act, enacted in 2019, imposed sweeping sanctions on individuals and entities linked to the Assad regime for war crimes and human rights violations.
