{"id":131811,"date":"2025-11-05T10:44:59","date_gmt":"2025-11-05T10:44:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=131811"},"modified":"2025-11-05T10:45:00","modified_gmt":"2025-11-05T10:45:00","slug":"over-400-health-facilities-scaled-back-in-syria-as-funding-dries-up-who","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/131811\/","title":{"rendered":"Over 400 health facilities scaled back in Syria as funding dries up \u2013 WHO"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> More than 400 health facilities across Syria have been forced to suspend or reduce services amid a severe funding crisis, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Tuesday, leaving millions without access to basic care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/news.un.org\/en\/story\/2025\/11\/1166267\">WHO<\/a>, only 58 percent of hospitals and 23 percent of primary healthcare centers in Syria are currently fully functional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funding shortages have affected over 400 medical facilities, with 366 halting or scaling back services, disrupting access for 7.4 million people nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In just two months, the crisis has prevented 122,000 trauma consultations and forced 13,700 births to take place without a skilled attendant, the agency said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cServices on the ground remain very fragile\u2026health needs are still rising,\u201d stated Dr. Christina Bethke, WHO\u2019s representative in Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bethke warned that the ongoing shortage of health workers and poor working conditions continue to strain recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">WHO said key hospitals in Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor risk closure, affecting over one million people.
