{"id":131519,"date":"2025-10-28T12:44:56","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T12:44:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=131519"},"modified":"2025-10-28T12:44:58","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T12:44:58","slug":"ex-defense-ministry-staff-in-damascus-decry-dismissal-as-unjust-move-by-transitional-authorities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/131519\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Defense Ministry staff in Damascus decry dismissal as \u201cunjust\u201d move by transitional authorities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Dozens of former employees of the Syrian Ministry of Defense staged on Tuesday a protest in front of the governorate building, demanding their reinstatement and the payment of wages that have been withheld since the fall of the Assad regime late last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The protesters, mostly administrative staff, have been unable to return to their positions or receive their salaries, despite repeated inquiries to the Ministry of Defense, the Administrative Development Department, and the Social Affairs Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hamida al-Hussein, a former civilian employee of the Ministry of Defense, told North Press, \u201cSince the fall of the regime, we lost our jobs and salaries, and we still don\u2019t know what will happen to us.\u201d She noted that the group consists of around 8,000 employees across Syria, not just in Damascus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Al-Hussein further explained, \u201cWe have been told that we are employees, but in reality, we have no work, no pay, and no official decision regarding our return.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She called on Syrian Transitional President Ahmad al-Sharaa to issue a decision regarding their status, citing that other state employees have been reinstated under Law 50, which also applies to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suleiman al-Masri, another former employee, expressed frustration at being accused of being \u201cremnants of the old regime\u201d despite not being involved in any military actions. \u201cWe are administrative workers with professional qualifications, not fighters,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After the fall of the Assad regime in late 2024, many employees of the Syrian Ministry of Defense, including civilian administrative staff, were dismissed by the transitional government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The protesters are demanding clarity from the transitional government, which has yet to provide any official decision regarding their fate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Malin Mohammed<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Editing by Jwan Shekaki&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Dozens of former employees of the Syrian Ministry of Defense staged on Tuesday a protest in front of the governorate building, demanding their reinstatement and the payment of wages that have been withheld since the fall of the Assad regime late last year.
