{"id":131271,"date":"2025-10-21T12:39:36","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T12:39:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=131271"},"modified":"2025-10-21T12:39:38","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T12:39:38","slug":"world-bank-estimates-216-billion-needed-to-rebuild-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/131271\/","title":{"rendered":"World Bank estimates $216 Billion needed to rebuild Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> The World Bank estimated the cost of rebuilding Syria at $216 billion after more than 13 years of conflict, according to its Syria Physical Damage and Reconstruction Assessment 2011\u20132024 released this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report found that nearly one-third of Syria\u2019s pre-war capital stock has been destroyed, with direct physical damages reaching $108 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Infrastructure sustained the heaviest toll, accounting for 48 percent of total damage ($52 billion), followed by residential buildings ($33 billion) and non-residential buildings ($23 billion).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governorates of Aleppo, Rif Dimashq, and Homs were identified as the most affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reconstruction costs are projected to range between $140 billion and $345 billion, with the World Bank\u2019s best estimate set at $216 billion. Of this, $75 billion would go to residential buildings, $59 billion to non-residential structures, and $82 billion to infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe challenges ahead are immense, but the World Bank stands ready to work alongside the Syrian people and the international community,\u201d said Jean-Christophe Carret, the Bank\u2019s Middle East Division Director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report highlights that the estimated reconstruction bill is nearly ten times Syria\u2019s projected 2024 GDP of $21.4 billion, down from $67.5 billion in 2011.
