{"id":131250,"date":"2025-10-21T07:46:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-21T07:46:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/?p=131250"},"modified":"2025-10-21T07:46:16","modified_gmt":"2025-10-21T07:46:16","slug":"suspected-isis-members-torch-oil-well-attack-tanker-in-deir-ez-zor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/npasyria.com\/en\/131250\/","title":{"rendered":"Suspected ISIS members torch oil well, attack tanker in Deir ez-Zor"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) \u2013<\/strong> Armed men believed to be affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) set late on Monday fire to an oil well and attacked a fuel tanker in two separate incidents in the desert of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syrian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A security source told North Press that ISIS militants burned the al-Fallaj oil well in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, causing what he described as \u201csignificant material losses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source added that the attackers warned the well\u2019s investor not to approach or resume operations until he pays a \u201czakat\u201d (religious tax) to the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a separate incident in the Takihi desert, north of Deir ez-Zor, ISIS gunmen opened fire at a fuel tanker shortly after dawn on Tuesday while it was en route to local oil fields, injuring the driver and damaging the vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ISIS remnants continue to carry out attacks targeting civilians, security forces, and oil facilities across the Syrian desert, particularly in areas where government and Iranian-backed forces maintain a limited presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Despite losing its territorial control in 2019, ISIS cells remain active in the vast Syrian desert, known as the Badia, where they continue to launch hit-and-run attacks targeting oil infrastructure, government forces, and local investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group exploits the region\u2019s rugged terrain and weak security presence to finance its operations through extortion and smuggling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reporting by Omar Abdurrahman<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Editing by Jwan Shekaki<\/strong><\/h3>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) \u2013 Armed men believed to be affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS) set late on Monday fire to an oil well and attacked a fuel tanker in two separate incidents in the desert of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syrian.
